In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the cause of a mysterious disease that claimed the lives of 143 people is a serious form of malaria. According to experts, malnutrition in the southwestern province of Kwwang made the local population vulnerable to the disease. The disease caused at least 143 deaths in November.
"The mystery is finally revealed. This is a case of severe malaria in the form of a respiratory disease," - the statement of the Ministry of Health of the DRC Congo reads.
Since the beginning of the outbreak in October, a total of 592 cases were registered, the mortality rate was 6.2%.
The World Health Organization provided antimalarial drugs to the country. The organization also plans to provide more tests to diagnose cases with both severe and middle -aged.
Malaria takes the lives of almost 600,000 people a year worldwide, 12% of these deaths are taking place in DR Congo.
