The Lithuanian government has decided to sign a memorandum with the RheinMetall armed concern from Germany to create a plant for ammunition in the country. This step aims to strengthen the military arsenal of Lithuania, as Prime Minister Igrid Shimonite said on his Twitter.
The process of concluding an agreement with RheinMetall will start in the coming weeks, the Minister of Economy and Innovation Auschrina Armoite said. This decision is caused by the need to protect the country's freedom and security, it added.
Earlier, on April 15, the Lithuanian Parliament approved amendments to laws that will simplify the procedure for obtaining permits for large defense companies seeking to start projects in the country. This step will contribute to the faster development of Lithuania's defense industry.
Recently, the Rheinmetall concern has also announced its plans for Ukraine, where it is planned to build at least four plants for weapons production, as well as related military equipment and components. One of the projects is to create a plant for ammunition production that will work for the benefit of Ukraine and Germany.
