The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine reported more than 50,000 people missing since the beginning of the war

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine (Ministry of Internal Affairs) has published new data on missing persons in war with Russia: 53,868 people are considered to be missing in Ukraine, including both civil and military. This list also includes children, which makes the situation especially disturbing.

Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Leonid Timchenko explained that in the framework of the investigation, investigators collect information about the place of work of the disappeared person, his or her communication circle and other details that can assist in establishing the location. In the case of the military, information from the brothers and data obtained from drones, which can confirm the location or death of the defender, shall also be added.

Despite the presence of videos or other data that indicate a possible death of a person, the person remains in the register of missing person until clear evidence is obtained or his remains are returned. According to Timchenko, this is done to ensure the accuracy of accounting and to provide families with clear information.
