Votes were gathered in the Dutch parliament to force the king to pay taxes

The initiators of the proposal that the King of the Netherlands paid taxes on an equal basis with other citizens, they report that two third deputies of both chambers of Parliament have support. The change in this provision, which exempts the king from paying taxes, requires the support of at least 100 out of 150 deputies of the lower house and 50 out of 75.

Representatives of the D66, SP and PVDDs stated that they first gained the required number of votes for further steps in this matter. Their initiative envisages the deprivation of all members of the royal family, including King William-Alexandra, Queen Maxim, Princess Beatrix, and Amalia Crown Princess.

"It is important that the king also pays income tax. The teacher and the police officer do so. Everyone in the Netherlands contributes to public institutions," - said the MP of the Lower Chamber from D66, Josto Sneller.

The amendments also stipulate that the Ministry of General Affairs of the Netherlands should inform the Parliament on steps to deprive the monarch of tax benefits within four weeks after the appointment of a new prime minister.

Earlier, more than 70% of the Netherlands population have supported the idea that the royal family pays taxes to the budget.
