In South Korea, during military exercises, two KF-16 fighters mistakenly dropped bombs outside the landfill in Phochkhon. As a result of a blow to the civilian area, at least 15 people were injured, two of whom were seriously injured. This was reported by representatives of the country's Air Force.
The preliminary investigation showed that the pilot error was the cause of the tragedy. Before take -off, he incorrectly introduced the coordinates of the target, which caused the deviation of the flight trajectory and the discharge of bombs to the settlement.
In total, eight 227-kilogram bombs MK-82 were dumped to damage fortified objects and armored vehicles. Because of this, the explosions caused significant damage to the infrastructure - eight buildings were damaged.
South Korea's military command stated that the investigation procedures of verification of the introduced coordinates and possible errors in air traffic management would be verified during the investigation.
After the South Korean Air Force, they officially apologized to the victims and promised to pay compensation.
The Ministry of Defense has stated that all necessary measures would be taken to avoid such situations in the future.
It was also decided to suspend all training with combat firing with the participation of the US military until the investigation was completed.
