3.5 tons of cocaine hidden in bananas were seized in Portugal

Portugal's Judicial Police reported a large -scale operation, during which 3.5 tons of cocaine were seized. Drugs were hidden in cargo with bananas intended for distribution in European countries. The operation was supported by the National Crime Agency.

According to police, cocaine weighing 3.458 tons was hidden in boxes with bananas, which were packaged for several pallets. The cargo was transported to the holding of a freight vessel that regularly transports fruits between Latin America and Europe.

"Given the large number of pallets with bananas transported to the ship, the detection of drugs was only possible due to prolonged and painstaking work carried out by investigators of this police," the law enforcement officers said.

The operation, called Acácias, was the result of international cooperation and careful investigation. Police said drugs had to get to the European market, but thanks to coordinated actions, they managed to prevent their distribution.
