In Sri Lanka, three people died due to floods

In Sri Lanka, in particular in the capital of Colombo, heavy rains have led to large-scale floods that caused the closure of schools and evacuation of thousands of people. According to preliminary data, at least three people were killed as a result of a natural disaster.

Strong rainfall on the weekend damaged many parts of the country by flooding homes, fields and roads. According to the Center for the Combating Natural Disasters of the country, three people were drowned, and about 134,000 people were affected by floods.

The Center reported that the rains and floods damaged 240 homes, and almost 7,000 people were evacuated. The authorities have disconnected electricity in some areas as a preventive measure.

Navy and troops were deployed to save victims and provide food and other essentials.

Local TV channels showed flooded cities in the Clombo suburbs. In some areas, water has reached roofs of houses and shops.

Sri Lanka has been fighting with harsh weather conditions, mainly caused by heavy monsoon rains. In June, 16 people were killed due to floods and landslides.
