Sweden has the highest unemployment rate in the last decade

Sweden is going through difficult times in the labor market: the unemployment rate in June 2024 has reached the highest level over the last decade. About it reports SVT, referring to the Minister of Labor and Integration, Johann Person.

According to the Minister, in June 2024, unemployment in the country was 8.3%, which is the highest in ten years. Compared to last year, the number of unemployed increased by 45 thousand people. Person predicts that the unemployment rate will remain high in 2025, despite the expected gradual restoration of the economy.

“The figures show that Sweden ranks fourth among EU countries in terms of unemployment. We compete with Finland, Greece and Spain. This indicates the presence of structural problems in the labor market that require urgent solution, ”Person said. He added that one of the reasons for high unemployment is the lack of integration in the labor market.

June 2024 also became a record month by the number of bankruptcy among companies since 1996. The reasons for this downturn include the completion of support programs that operated during the Covid-19 pandemic.

When asked by government measures to combat unemployment, Johan Person replied that it was important for the contenders to study Swedish and be ready to move to find work.

“We demand that people who apply to work have studied Swedish. The unemployed should also be ready to move to find a job, ”the minister stressed.
