Representatives of the US Democratic Party in the House of Representatives proposed a new bill, which provides extensive support for Ukraine in the war against Russia, as well as a significant increase in the sanction pressure on the Kremlin. This was reported by Reuters .
The project was initiated by the Congressman-Democrat Greg Mix, a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs. The bill aims to provide funding for Ukrainian security, assistance in the reconstruction of the country and the imposition of harder sanctions against the Russian Federation. The document consists of three main sections and, according to the authors, will provide more support than similar initiatives in the US Senate.
This section confirms the full support of Ukraine in its fight against the aggressor, as well as transatlantic solidarity with NATO. The position of a special coordinator on the restoration of Ukraine - for the effective organization of international assistance and reconstruction of the destroyed infrastructure is also envisaged.
The bill provides direct loans, military financing and other forms of defense assistance. The US plans to promote the modernization of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, supporting their ability to effectively resist Russian aggression.
The third section is one of the most rigid: it proposes to impose strict sanctions against Russian financial institutions, oil and gas and mining industries, as well as against individual officials of the Russian Federation. Sanctions also include increased export control, which should restrict Russia's access to critical technologies.
The Democrats' initiative is an next attempt to pressure President Donald Trump's administration to support Ukraine's large -scale assistance. Previously, both chamber of Congress discussed the laws of support of Kiev, but the agreement between the parties was difficult to reach.
According to the assistants of the Congress who participated in the development of the document, part of this bill can be integrated into a larger legislative package against Ukraine. Even if the full adoption of the document in the House of Representatives does not take place, it will affect the negotiations.
