Hungary does not support the adoption of a law that is important for Ukraine, namely, the opportunity to profit from frozen Russian assets. This law would allow Ukraine to obtain significant funds that could be used to support the economy and strengthen national security in the face of military conflict with Russia.
It is a recent EU decision to start using $ 190 billion in Kiev for military support, which are placed in the Belgian Central Depository of Securities.
Budapest wants to coordinate each such payment and opposes the automation of payments.
"The Hungarian ambassador objected to the acceleration of payments by abandoning the requirement of automatic support for each payment of Ukraine ... They are currently blocking everything related to the military support of Ukraine," - writes with reference to Financial Times sources.
It is expected that Budapest's objection will remain at least before the elections to the European Parliament in June.
EU officials have proposed an agreement to Hungary, under which their share of Brussels funds will not be used to purchase weapons for Ukraine. This convinced Budapest not to veto the whole scheme, "but it restrains the implementation of the conditions without supporting the necessary legislation."
Diplomats hope that you can find a way to solve these problems before the payment will be planned for July. Hungary refused to comment.
