Hungarian veto: reasons for not accepting the decision on Ukraine's accession to the EU

The Hungarian Government has expressed its disintended position on the initiation of negotiations with Ukraine on its accession to the European Union and providing additional financial support to Kyiv without a “period of reflection and strategic discussion of EU policy on Ukraine”. Janos Bokka, Minister of Hungary's European Union, said it today, November 15.

"In December, we will have preparation for the European Council, which, in my opinion, is crucial. On the agenda there will be such important issues as expanding or revising the long -term financial budget.

According to him, Hungary believes that a strategic discussion cannot be made to access Ukraine or revision of financial structures.

Slovakia, on the contrary, supports the expansion of the European Union. Secretary of State Secretary of Foreign and European Affairs Slovakia, Marek Ashtok noted that their priority is a long -term financial budget, as well as providing humanitarian and civil assistance for regions suffering from war in Ukraine.
