Ukraine and the United States are working in the direction of creating innovative hybrid air defense systems. These systems combine advanced launchers of the "land-to-air" class of Western production with upgraded Soviet launching installations and radars. The message appeared in The New York Times.
The program is called Frankensam and involves combining different types of weapons. One variant of such hybrid systems combines the Soviet starting installations and American SEA Sparrow missiles. The second option includes improvised ground units that combine the Soviet Soviet era and modern supersonic aviation missiles Sidewinder. Another option includes a combination of Soviet equipment with HAWK air defense systems.
The tests at military bases in the United States have confirmed the effectiveness of these hybrid systems. They will be delivered to Ukraine in the near future. In the future, Frankensam developers plan to create a combination of missiles and a Patriot launcher capable of interacting with Ukrainian radar systems.
These innovative air defense systems will allow Ukraine to use its resources and arsenal more efficiently in the event of a long war. They will also make it possible to use NATO weapons not previously involved, which will be an important element of Ukraine's security.
It is known that the US Administration appealed to Congress with a request for funding for $ 106 billion, including funds to support Ukraine and respond to the situation in Israel. The issue of allocation of military assistance to Ukraine and Israel will be considered separately.
