Ukraine will receive €1.4 billion due to profits from frozen Russian assets

The European Union was at an altitude in a difficult diplomatic situation concerning Ukraine's assistance in the conditions of blocking Hungary. According to Bloomberg, European countries have been able to avoid veto introduced by Hungary and agreed to the provision of military assistance to Kiev worth € 1.4 billion.

Money is given at the expense of profit from frozen Russian assets.

This decision was approved on Monday at a meeting of foreign ministers in EU in Luxembourg.

This step was taken after the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrel, proposed, in fact, to deprive Viktor Orban's Government of the right of voice on this issue, since Hungary has abstained from the previous EU decision, which allows the use of these funds.

"This treaty provides legal ways to move forward, even if some member country does not want to participate," Borrel said. "Since Hungary has not participated in the decision, it should not participate in its implementation."

The Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Siyarto wrote in one of the social networks before the meeting of the heads of foreign policy agencies of the EU, that Borrel's proposal to act in the bypass of Hungary “violates European rules”.
