Ukrainian agrarians this year will collect a greater crop of grain, despite the reduction of acreage. The reason for the increase in the crop was favorable weather conditions.
In 2023 it is expected to collect 57.8 million tons of cereals, which is 6% more than last year. According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine, agrarians have already harvested 57.6 million tons of grain and oilseeds. The harvesting was carried out on an area of 8 275.3 thousand hectares with a yield of 47.4 quintals per hectare, and 39 228.2 thousand tons of grain were harvested.
This year, wheat yield is enlarged by 7% to 22.2 million tons, corn by 8% to 28.3 million tons and barley by 5% to 5.9 million tons compared to last year. The weather conditions made their contribution, compensating for the reduction of acreage. Despite the decrease in the area of sowing of spring and winter grain by 980 thousand hectares to 10 895 thousand hectares, the yield of cereals reached record values (up to 52.1 quintals per hectare). Thus, Ukrainian farmers will provide the domestic market for grain products, despite the absence of exports.
