By the end of 2025, 180 underground schools are planned to be opened in Ukraine, which will simultaneously serve schools and anti -radiation shelters. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Education and Science Nadiya Kuzmichov on the air of the national telephone.
Currently, there are 15 such schools in Ukraine, in particular in the frontline regions where standard shelters do not provide sufficient safety for children and staff. The largest number of underground schools already operate in the Zaporozhye region - eight from fifteen.
According to Kuzmichova, underground schools are erected exclusively in zones of high danger, such as Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia, Kherson, Mykolaiv, Chernihiv and Sumy regions. It is there that the simplest shelters are not able to fully protect in the event of shelling or use of weapons of mass destruction.
"We have more than 13,000 schools across the country, and about 80% of them already have hiding or civil protection structures. But another 20% require more reliable protective decisions, especially in the regions where combat is ongoing," she stressed.
There are currently about 200 underground schools in the construction process, and more than 180 of them must be commissioned by the end of the year. Such establishments allow you to ensure a continuous learning process even in difficult safety conditions.
