Ukraine is preparing for a decisive NATO summit in Washington

On June 24-25, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky takes part in a two -day NATO Summit in Hague, where he holds a series of important meetings. The program of the visit was published by the press service of the North Atlantic Alliance.

Although the Summit in the Netherlands is considered intermediate, it is important for preparation for the NATO's main summit, which will take place in Washington in July 2025. The focus is on coordinating Ukraine's defense support, strengthening NATO security obligations and a political signal on Ukraine's course for Euro -Atlantic integration.

On the first day of the Summit, Zelensky met with the newly elected Alliance Secretary General Mark Rutte, who will officially occupy a position since October 2025. This is one of his first meetings in a new status. The model of long -term support for Ukraine, including the financing of defense needs, assistance coordination mechanisms and steps towards rapprochement with the Alliance, was discussed. The issue of future NATO membership membership is also considered.

Particular attention was paid to the initiative to provide Ukraine with stable support by 2035, which was previously announced by Rutte. The relevant provisions are expected to be included in the summary document.

The second day is dedicated to negotiations with the leaders of five key European countries - France, Germany, Italy, Poland and the United Kingdom. The purpose of the meeting is to reconcile positions on the volume and rate of military assistance, long -term security guarantees, expectations from the summit in Washington and the political perspective of Ukraine's membership in the Alliance.

The position of Germany and France, which does not always follow a single line for the expansion of NATO, unlike the United Kingdom and Poland, which stablely support Ukraine's Euro -Atlantic aspirations, is also the focus.

After the negotiations, a joint speech of the Secretary General of the Alliance and the President of Ukraine is planned. It should confirm the coherence of approaches and the role of Ukraine in European security architecture, even if official membership has not yet been issued.

For Ukraine, participation in the summit is an opportunity to record specific agreements on military support, to demonstrate political unity with partners and to promote the issues of Euro -Atlantic integration. Kyiv expects clear formulations in the final document for support, mention of the strategic course of Ukraine and possible participation in new defense initiatives.
