The new project of the Ukraine and the US agreement on minerals is not likely to be signed in the US side proposed. This was reported by a high -ranking Ukrainian source in the commentary of The Washington Post.
According to sources, a 55-page document prepared by Washington and published in Financial Times is real. It does not contain any security guarantees for Ukraine and stipulates that all US support during the war is regarded as debt, which should be returned at the expense of income from the agreement.
One of the officials expressed the opinion that the document was impression that Ukraine "was in the war with the United States, lost, was captured and now has to pay lifelong reparations." The project also provides the United States with a “first proposal” for all investments in the energy and extraction of minerals, which can actually give Washington control over these sectors of the Ukrainian economy.
The Ukrainian side is seriously concerned because previous US grants have been reproduced in the project as loans to be returned. According to one of the sources, the current version of the agreement looks like the maximum starting position of the US side for further negotiations.
