Ukraine will receive from Sweden a geoscanning device for the investigation of war crimes of the Russian Federation

During the meeting, Ukrainian and Swedish law enforcement officers discussed the possibility of transferring to Ukraine a gexaneous device for finding bodies, which will help in investigating the military crimes of the Russian Federation. The National Police of Ukraine reports about it.

There are already data on more than 37 thousand people in the Unified Register of Persons missing in special circumstances.

More than 200 police representatives, prosecutors for investigating war crimes and the Sweden Justice Department joined the meeting. The National Police was represented by the Head of the Department of Military Crimes of the Main Investigation Department Oleksandr Shapovalov, Deputy Head of the Department of Operational Support of Investigation of Military Crimes of the Criminal Investigation Department Andriy Astafiev and Deputy Head of the Department of International Police Cooperation.

The participants of the Ukrainian delegation discussed with the heads of the Crisis Situations Department of the International Character and International Operations of the Swedish Police opportunities to provide logistical assistance in investigating war crimes, demining, counteracting the illegal circulation of weapons and the activities of cinema units.

In September 2024, the Swedish side will hand over a gexaneous device to Ukraine and provide training of criminalists who will work with it. In addition, the Swedish delegation will soon arrive in Ukraine to discuss the purchase of a specially equipped container to organize the work on the identification of victims at the scene and other needs of the police in investigating military crimes of the Russian Federation.

Swedish law enforcement officers shared their own experience in using leading technologies in the work of police, including geospanners who use to search for bodies, hidden objects in soil by scanning and identifying differences in soil structure. They also spoke about the use of a special container to organize the work on the identification of victims at the scene.

In turn, Ukrainian law enforcement officers told foreign colleagues about the results of the investigation of military crimes of Russia and the approaches and skills they use for this purpose. In order to accomplish new tasks in the National Police, specializations of investigators and operatives in the investigation of crimes committed in the conditions of armed conflict were introduced, and created specialized departments for documentation and investigation of war crimes, as well as their operational support. They operate not only on the basis of the central apparatus, but also in the regions that are most affected by a full -scale invasion. The police officers of these units provide all the necessary equipment, the latest technical means for fixing crimes.
