In 2023, Ukraine showed the world's largest increase in military expenditures against GDP, reaching 37%. This is a very impressive indicator that indicates a serious increase in investment in the armed forces and defense of the country. At the same time, Russia, which is traditionally considered one of the leading military states, showed much less growth - only 1.2%, to 5.9% of its GDP.
Ukraine in 2023 showed the world's largest increase in military expenditures against GDP - by 11% (up to 37%). Russia in second place is 1.2% (up to 5.9%).
It is reported by the Stockholm International Institute for Peace Problems Research (SIPRI).

The world's military expenditures have been growing for the ninth consecutive year. In 2023, they increased by another 6.8% - to $ 2.443 trillion, which corresponds to 2.3% of world GDP.
This is the highest world level of military expenditures during SIPRI research. Researchers explain this trend in the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, as well as tensions in Asia.
About half of the world military expenditures last year occurred in the US and China's share. All countries in the TOP-10 have increased their military expenses.
