Ukraine has officially established diplomatic relations with the Federal Republic of Somalia. The corresponding protocol was signed on Friday, April 11, during the Antalyan Diplomatic Forum. The document was signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sibiga and the State Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Somalia Ali Mohammed Omar.
According to Sibiga, the establishment of diplomatic relations opens new opportunities to strengthen bilateral cooperation. The Ukrainian side has already assisted Somalia within the humanitarian initiative "Grain from Ukraine" and intends to continue to support this country in food security.
“Ukraine is interested in strengthening ties and its presence on the African continent. We appreciate the support of Somalia sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, ”Sibiga said.
During the meeting, the parties also discussed ways of developing cooperation in trade, humanitarian aid and international support. Participation in the Forum in Antalya provided Ukrainian diplomats to deepen relations with African countries and outline new directions of Ukraine's foreign policy.
