Ukraine is the third lowest in the world in terms of birth rate

Ukraine is faced with a significant decrease in the number of born children, which leads the country to one of the last places in the world by this indicator. In recent years, the trend has been observed among the rural and urban population, which threatens the demographic stability of the country.

With the start of a full -scale war, the demographic situation in Ukraine has deteriorated sharply. In addition to migration and other objective reasons, the birth ratio decreased sharply.

This was reported by Deputy Minister of Social Policy Darius Marchak at HR Wisdom Summit, a summit of HR specialists of leading companies of Ukraine, writes Glavcom.

According to Daria Marchak, 1,2 children had a full -scale invasion of one woman of childbearing age in Ukraine, after the start of a full -scale invasion - 0.9. This indicator is the third from the end in the world.

“Even if, after a full -scale invasion, Ukraine returns to pre -war indicators, or even if it makes a very big breakthrough and releases the average among EU countries, that is, 1.5 children per woman, it will be a very good result for Ukraine as an indicator of birth. But this will not solve the problem of falling demography, ”Mchak said.

The Deputy Minister stressed that there is a large external migration in Ukraine, which was before a full -scale invasion. According to Marchak, by 2022, Ukrainians were one of the leaders in terms of the number of issued certificates on the right to reside in EU countries.

Also, according to the official, the number of children in Ukraine is declining every year.

“This means that in the future, when we retire, one person who works has several pensioners. Already today we have one working pensioner, ”the official states.

Marchak recalled the consequences of disappointing demographic indicators:

  • Reducing the number of taxpayers;
  • Lack of frames for recovery;
  • Lack of personnel for security, defense forces;
  • Labor deficit.

Recall that as a result of demographic processes, the number of able -bodied population in Ukraine for 2024, compared with the pre -war 2021, decreased by 40%. According to the estimates of the Demography Institute in the territory controlled in Ukraine, 31 million people live, 4.9 million went abroad, about five million Ukrainians live in temporarily occupied territories. Until 2025, only 25 million can remain in Ukraine.
