Ukraine has resumed a ferry connection with Georgia for the first time since the beginning of a full -scale invasion of Russia. This has become an important step to restoring economic ties between the two countries through maritime transport. This was reported by the director of commercial work and logistics of Ukrzaliznytsia Timothy Murakhovsky at a meeting dedicated to the restoration of a ferry connection within the TMTM Corridor.
The first two flights from the Ukrainian port of Chernomorsk to the Georgian port of Batumi were made on March 18 and 26, 2025. These flights became significant because they took place after almost two years of break in the ferry between Ukraine and Georgia, which was stopped due to full -scale aggression of Russia.
According to Murakhovsky's statements, the third flight is planned for the next week. The ferry is implemented with the participation of the navigable company "Ukrferri", based in Odessa and the subsidiary of Ukrzaliznytsia - UZ Cargo Poland, located in Warsaw.
The peculiarity of the restored flights was that the first two were conducted in the mode of information silence. This made it possible to avoid unnecessary interest in the process in a critical period. However, according to Murakhovsky, Ukrainian businessmen should be more active in this area, as it gives new opportunities for transportation of goods between countries.
The project of recovery of a ferry connection is part of Ukraine's efforts to expand its trade corridors after the war. Today, the maritime communication between Ukraine and Georgia has been completely stopped after the full -scale war in February 2022, and now the recovery of ferry transport is an important step for the restoration of ties.
