Ukraine urges the European Union to impose sanctions against Bangladesh companies, which, according to it, import wheat illegally exported from Russia -occupied Ukrainian territories. About it reports Reuters on Friday, June 27.
According to information provided by Ukrainian diplomats, more than 150 thousand tons of wheat were taken out of the Russian port of the Caucasus. Deliveries were carried out by sea routes, and Ukraine handed over Bangladesh a list of ships with the specified registration numbers that were involved in transportation.
According to Ambassador of Ukraine to India Alexander Polishchuk, Russian suppliers deliberately mix the grain stolen from the temporarily occupied regions of Ukraine, with grain of Russian descent to hide its true source.
"This is a crime. We will share our investigation with colleagues with the EU and kindly ask them to take appropriate measures," Polishchuk stressed.
The Embassy of Ukraine has already sent Bangladesh to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at least four official applications demanding to stop cooperation with such suppliers.
Ukraine also warned of "serious consequences" for importing companies and government officials of Bangladesh, which contribute to the trade of stolen Ukrainian grain. Kiev does not exclude the possibility of imposing personal sanctions.
In the European Union, Ukraine has already been reacted. The European Commission representative Anitt Hipper emphasized that proven involvement in the transportation of stolen grain from Ukrainian territories may be the basis for sanctions.
