Ukraine is introducing taxes for captive invaders

Russian prisoners of war, which are in Ukrainian camps, will be obliged to pay taxes on income received from work. The corresponding bill has already been approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. This was reported by a government representative in the Verkhovna Rada Taras Melnychuk.

According to him, prisoners of war are not just kept in the camps, but are involved in work - in particular, in tailoring clothing for the Ukrainian military and other production tasks. Previously, these incomes were not taxed, but with the adoption of the new law the situation will change.

According to the document, the prisoners will keep:

  • 18% of personal income tax (PIT);

  • 5% of the military levy.

"Prisoners of war are defined as a separate category of non-residents of Ukraine in accordance with the Geneva Convention on the Treatment of Prisoners of Pursuing (1949) and an additional protocol to the Geneva Conventions (1977),"-said in the law.

Tax agents will be camps or other prisoners. They will be responsible for taxes and reporting - including the total amount of income and taxes paid.

Thus, Ukraine introduces a systematic approach to financial accounting of prisoners of war, following international humanitarian law and transparency principles.
