In January 2024, some consumers can witness a significant increase in utility bills. The main reason for this growth is cooling, which causes the residents to consume more heat.
In houses equipped with heat meters, residents are paid for virtually consumed gigacalories (Gcal). The level of consumed gigacalories changes depending on the air temperature: during severe cooling, people consume more heat. This leads to an increase in the temperature of the coolant, which, in turn, affects the increase in numbers on utility bills.
Also, in the spring of 2024 it is possible to transfer tariffs for some utilities, such as light and gas. Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko reported that by the end of the heating season, 2023/24 is planned to leave electricity tariffs unchanged. However, tariff views are possible in the spring, as well as increasing gas prices, hot water and heating, which will remain at the level of last year until 2025, after which the moratorium on rising prices may be canceled. Ukrainians should be prepared to increase the cost of utilities in the near future.
