Ukraine plans to increase pension payments and scholarships for certain categories of citizens in 2025. According to the Law No. 12300, it is proposed to increase payments by 20% for pensioners and students living in mountain settlements or have the status of internally displaced persons (IDPs).
Increasing pensions and scholarships will only apply to a certain category of citizens, including those who live in settlements with mountain status. According to new proposals, internally displaced persons who live, work or study in such settlements for at least six months will be able to receive an additional 20% of their payments.
This decision applies to citizens living in the mountainous regions of Transcarpathian, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv and Chernivtsi regions, where there are about 130 thousand internally displaced persons today.
According to an explanatory note to the bill, all citizens living, working or studying in mountain settlements should have equal opportunities in access to social guarantees and benefits. This means that even internally displaced persons must receive the same social payments as those who reside in such areas.
In addition, it should be noted that since 2025 the minimum pension for Ukrainians will be set at UAH 2 361. However, this amount is not enough to meet basic needs, so the government has introduced additional benefits and social guarantees to support pensioners. Increasing pensions and scholarships by 20% is one of these initiatives aimed at improving the financial condition of the elderly and students.
