Ukrainian rower and military officer Larisa Zhalinska fled to Russia, which she called her native country. In response, the Academic Rowing Federation of Ukraine (FAWU) decided to disqualify her for life and deprive her of all sports titles and awards.
The President of FAVU, Volodymyr Vlasenko, commented on the situation, noting that the decision was unanimously voted by the Executive Committee of the Federation and has already been forwarded to the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine.
It is known that Zhalinska did not receive official permission to cross the border from the Ministry of Youth and Sports. According to Vlasenko, the athlete was not part of the national teams that participated in international competitions this season, and did not demonstrate results that could justify her going abroad.
"She demonstrated a pro-Ukrainian position even earlier. During the performances, she competed with the flag of the 23rd separate brigade of the "Khortytsia" OGP, - noted the president of the Federation. "Her act was a shock for everyone."
Zhalinska is a multiple winner of the championships of Ukraine. At the last championship of Ukraine, she won two bronze medals and a silver. However, after the scandalous decision to flee to Russia, all her awards and achievements were annulled.
"Our position is clear: such actions are unacceptable. The Federation unequivocally supports sanctions in the form of lifetime disqualification," Vlasenko emphasized.
