In Afghanistan, new strict prohibitions were invented for women

The Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Afghan Dependent has announced a new ban according to which women are forbidden to read the Qur'an aloud and pray in the presence of other women. This step is part of the cruel restrictions that are introduced to control the lives of Afghan women, Amu TV reports.

In August 2024, Talibi adopted a law containing 35 articles that significantly restrict women's rights. Among the prohibitions: a ban on talking in public places and to be open in public. The Taliban authorities explain that these measures are aimed at "combating vice and encouraging virtue." However, human rights activists and women themselves have condemned such measures as another manifestation of politics that systematically violates women's rights.

According to Article 13 of the new law, the Talibi classified the female voice as "intimate", equating it to the vice. From now on, women are forbidden to speak in public, sing or read aloud. All this is allowed only at home, but provided that the voice is not heard from the outside. Human rights activists believe that such a restriction not only oppresses the basic rights of women, but also creates unbearable conditions for those who are the only breadwinners in their families.

“How women who are the only breadwinners of their families can buy bread, seek medical help or just exist, even if their voice is forbidden? These laws immobilize women and make life of all of us exhausting, ” - said one of the activists of Amu TV.

Such severe restrictions indicate the strengthening of the habitual measures of the Talibus that restrict women in the ability to work, move and even speak. Human rights activists urge the international community to pay attention to the deterioration of women's rights in Afghanistan and to help fight for their right to a decent life.
