In the face of continuing shelling, Ukraine is actively implementing innovative solutions to ensure the safety of the educational process. According to the Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Nadiya Kuzmichov, more than 139 underground schools are being built in the country, as well as several dozen vocational education institutions.
Of the total number of active construction, there are 79 facilities, and by the end of the year it is planned to be commissioned up to ten schools. The bulk of these projects is implemented in frontier and border regions that regularly suffer from shelling.
"We expect the completion of the construction of all objects by September 1, 2025. In January we are moving to a new construction cycle, and additional funding for new facilities is already provided," said Nadezhda Kuzmichova.
Underground schools will become unique educational institutions that can guarantee a safe stay of children even during active fighting. This is part of a nationwide strategy for ensuring access to emergency education.
