The National Bank of Ukraine reported an increase in the level of fake hryvnia in 2024. Nevertheless, the indicators remain controlled.
Last year, 5.1 fakes accounted for 1 million real banknotes. This is less than in 2021, when 7.1 fakes were made up a million notes.
The most popular among the fraudsters are the denominations of 500 and 200 UAH . However, the new sample banknotes (released in 2015-2020) account for only 5.5% of all the counterfeits withdrawn.
NBU experts explain that modern generation banknotes - denominations of 100, 200, 500 and 1,000 hryvnias - have advanced design and improved protection systems, which significantly complicates their forgery.
