US Finance Minister Scott Bessent has expressed his belief that, under the conditions of effective management and international support, the Ukrainian economy may become larger than Russia's economy for the next twenty years. He stated this during the hearing in the US Congress.
Bessent stressed that economic security is an integral part of each country's national security. According to him, he and President Donald Trump are vision that stable Ukrainian economy in the long run is the best protection for both Ukraine and regional security in general.
In support of his optimism, Bessent cited the example of Poland. When the Berlin Wall fell, the economies of Poland and Ukraine were approximately at the same level. Today, the Polish economy exceeds the Ukrainian three times.
“I believe that twenty years of Ukraine's economy, thanks to an effective management similar to a partnership (between Ukraine and the USA - Ed.) And global investment, can become larger than Russia's economy. And it will be a powerful restraining factor for the future leadership of Russia, ”the minister emphasized.
In addition, Bessent announced the holding of the Grand International Conference on Recovery of Ukraine, which will take place in Rome. According to him, the United States is urging the World Bank to concentrate on the restoration of the Ukrainian economy.
Separately, the Minister stressed that the countries that assisted Russia in the war - financially, troops or supply of weapons - will not have the right to participate in the restoration of Ukraine after the war.
