On May 12, London was a meeting of foreign ministers of the Weimar+ - France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the EU Supreme Representative. As a result of the negotiations, the participants published a joint statement, the main focus of which was the support of Ukraine against the background of continuing Russian aggression.
The participants of the meeting expressed solidarity with the Ukrainian people and the sympathy of the victims of the last attacks by Russia. The statement emphasized that states support the sovereignty, territorial integrity and security of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.
The ministers congratulated peaceful initiatives that are supported by the United States and noted the prospect of further negotiations this week. At the same time, they stated the lack of serious intentions to achieve diplomatic progress.
A separate item was the attachment of the group countries to the call of Ukraine on the immediate 30-day ceasefire. The purpose of such a truce, as noted, is to create conditions for negotiations on a fair, comprehensive and sustained peace.
The parties also discussed the steps to strengthen European support of Ukraine, in particular in the defense sphere. The participants emphasized the importance of a strong Ukrainian army as a key factor in protecting from aggression.
The final part of the statement emphasized the need for closer cooperation between the United Kingdom, the European Union, NATO and Ukraine. Weimar+ representatives advocated the strengthening of security and defense partnership, considering it vital for stability on the European continent.
