The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is preparing for the next continuation of martial law and general mobilization in the country. According to the announcements, these measures will be extended for another 90 days - until May 9, 2025.
The President of Ukraine should submit two drafi in the Parliament to approve their decrees on the continuation of martial law and mobilization. According to information from the People's Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak, the relevant documents will probably be submitted on Monday. Thereafter:
- The Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence will consider draft laws.
- Upon approval by the Committee, the documents will be brought to voting in the session hall.
- In case of successful voting, the President will sign the laws that will officially continue their martial law and mobilization.
This is the fourteenth time when martial law and general mobilization in Ukraine since their introduction in 2022 as a result of a full -scale invasion of the Russian Federation. Martial law allows to introduce a special legal regime, which includes restrictions on certain rights and freedoms of citizens, as well as mobilize all state resources to ensure the country's defense capability.
During the martial law in Ukraine, general mobilization operates, which provides for the possibility of conscription of citizens to perform military duties. There is also a regime of restrictions, including freedom of movement, media activities and mass events.
The continuation of martial law and mobilization is part of Ukraine's general strategy to counteract the aggression of the Russian Federation and ensure stability in war.
