Armenia signed a strategic agreement with the USA

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan signed the Charter on Strategic Cooperation between Washington and Yerevan. This document lays the basis for expanding bilateral cooperation in areas such as economics, security, defense, democracy, inclusivity and interpersonal relationships.

  • Economic and Defense Cooperation: The United States will work with Armenia to strengthen its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
  • Border Safety: A special American customs and border group will arrive in Armenia in the coming weeks to conduct joint border protection operations.
  • Strategic Partnership: A Strategic Partnership Commission was created to control the implementation of the arrangements.

Secretary of State Blinken said that the United States will support Armenia in its efforts to protect sovereignty. In his turn, Ararat Mirzoyan expressed his gratitude to Washington for supporting the independence and territorial integrity of Armenia.

In recent years, Armenia has increasingly drawn attention to Western partners due to threats to borders and tense relations with neighboring countries. The signing of the Agreement demonstrates Yerevan's desire for strengthening international support and diversification of foreign policy.
