Vladimir Putin visited Turkmenistan, despite the ICC's arrest warrant

On October 11, 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin paid a working visit to Turkmenistan, despite the warrant for his arrest issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC). This step caused numerous discussions in the international arena, in particular in connection with his accusations of the illegal forced transfer of Ukrainian children to Russia.

In a video released by the Kremlin on Friday morning, Putin can be seen driving up to the conference venue in his limousine, shaking hands with the Turkmen leader and then addressing conference participants in the Turkmen capital of Ashgabat.

At the conference, Putin said that a new world order is needed, "under which wealth will be redistributed more fairly, and the opinion of every nation will be taken into account."

Regional leaders participate in the conference. Also, according to reports, Putin should hold separate negotiations with the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

In addition, it is reported that Putin was supposed to discuss the situation in the Middle East on the sidelines of the event with Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian, who was also supposed to take part in the conference.

The day before, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine stated that it is Ukraine's hope that the leadership of Turkmenistan realizes that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is a war criminal for whom an arrest warrant has been issued by the International Criminal Court for the illegal forced transfer of Ukrainian children to the Russian Federation.
