President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the accident of Russian tankers in the Black Sea, emphasizing the large-scale threat they pose to ecology and peace.
The head of state said that Russian tankers, which use outdated vessels, not only contribute to financing the war, but also cause significant damage to nature. "Russia uses very old vessels - 50 years old - just to make money. This is a full-scale threat - both from the point of view of financing the war, and from the point of view of damage to nature," Zelenskyi said.
The President emphasized that after the accident in the Black Sea, pollution of the coast with fuel oil became an acute problem. Despite this, the Russian authorities ignore the disaster. "Putin does nothing about the consequences of the tanker disaster. He is only interested in "nuts" and other madness," Zelenskyy added.
Zelenskyi also called on the international community to act to make Russia answer for the damage caused to nature and humanity. "We must do everything possible to force Russia to real peace and responsibility for everything committed as soon as possible," he emphasized.
It will be recalled that after the accident of two Russian tankers in the Kerch Strait on the coast of the Krasnodar Territory, more than 1,700 tons of sand contaminated with fuel oil were collected. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia, more than 19 kilometers of coastline have been cleaned, but ecologists warn: the sand in the region will remain toxic for at least 10 years.
