Russia and Ukraine have lost about 1.4 million servicemen killed and injured in more than three years of a full -scale war. Such estimates are given by the American Center for Strategic and International Research (CSIS) in the new analytical report.
According to experts, Russia will reach a mark of 1 million military casualties in the summer of 2025. Of these, at least 250 thousand were killed. CSIS indicates that this is several times the losses that Russia and the USSR have suffered in all wars after the Second World War. In particular, these losses are 15 times higher than the loss in the war in Afghanistan and ten times in Chechen wars.
The losses of Ukraine, according to analysts, are 60-100 thousand dead military and more than 300 thousand wounded. In total, it is about 400,000 losses among the Ukrainian defense forces.
CSIS emphasizes that Russia is losing the most soldiers from depressive regions - the Far East, the Far North and Prisons. At the same time, representatives of the political and economic elite of Moscow and St. Petersburg are hardly involved in the war.
Analysts also analyzed the losses of military equipment. Since January 2024, Russia has lost:
-
More than 1100 armored vehicles,
-
over 3000 BMPs,
-
300 self -propelled artillery systems,
-
and more than 1800 tanks.
In this case, the ratio of losses of equipment ranges from 2: 1 to 5: 1 in favor of Ukraine. In the first months of the invasion of the ratio was about 4: 1, it decreased during the offensive of the Russian Federation in 2023, but again increased during the battles for Avdiivka and in other areas of the front.
Despite large -scale losses, Russia is moving extremely slowly. The average daily rate of its offensive is only 50 meters. Since January 2024, Russian troops captured about 5,000 square kilometers of Ukraine, which analysts call the "humble" result.
For comparison, during the Ukrainian counter -offensive in the summer - ends of 2023, the promotion was also slow - on average 90 meters a day, but was carried out against deeply fortified Russian positions.
