WhatsApp found vulnerability that allows attacking group chats

WhatsApp has critical vulnerability that allows the Graphite virus to penetrate users' devices through infected PDF files sent to group chats. The malicious software developed by the Israeli company Paragon Solutions can infect the system without the need to open a file or transition by links. To date, 90 people, including journalists and human rights activists, have become victims of this attack.

WhatsApp promptly blocked the spread of the virus and informed the affected users. However, experts point out that the potential risk of such attacks is still high. To prevent infection, it is recommended that you not download files from unknown sources, even if they are sent in proven chats, turn off the automatic saving of files in the messenger settings and regularly update both whatsApp and the operating system.

Paragon Solutions does not comment on the situation, but it is known that it cooperates with governments from different countries, including the US, Greece and Poland. Earlier, the US authorities were already investigating this company, and in 2023, the administration of Joe Biden introduced a ban on the use of its software due to threats to national security.
