Admiral Rob Bauer, the head of NATO's military committee, expressed the opinion during the Prague Defense Summit that the forces of the Alliance would have already pushed the Russian army out of Ukraine if the Russian Federation did not have nuclear weapons. At the same time, he stated that the security situation is complicated by the presence of Russia's nuclear arsenal, which significantly deters NATO's direct military participation in the conflict.
Bauer did not rule out the possibility of involving NATO troops in a confrontation with Russia, but emphasized that this is a political issue that would mean a significant risk for the Alliance as a single bloc. The admiral noted that decisions to provide arms to Ukraine also face caution and uncertainty due to potential consequences that are not always obvious in advance.
Bauer also commented on the possibility of a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine with the participation of the newly elected US President Donald Trump, saying that any agreement that would allow Russia to declare victory could negatively affect US interests.
