The White House Administration has released up to 300 employees of the US Peace Institute (Mesip), an organization that deals with the victims of the wars of countries and facilitates peace talks around the world, in particular in Ukraine. This reduction has become part of Ilon Mask's initiative, the head of the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (Doge).
The large -scale contraction of the state occurred less than two weeks after Musk received his post. The dismissed employees claim that they were offered a severance pay and an additional month of health insurance, but in exchange they had to refuse to sue. Nevertheless, the liberated group still went to court, arguing that the executive had no right to liquidate the institution because it was created by the US Congress. The hearing in the case is appointed in April. The United States Institute was founded in 1984 by Congress as an independent organization that helps prevent armed conflicts and conclude peace agreements. It supported the US government and international initiatives for peaceful crises, as well as providing analytical materials on reforms in the fields of security, justice, the fight against corruption and more.
The dismissal of USIP staff has caused concern among experts who believe that such a step could have a negative impact on the US diplomatic efforts in resolving international conflicts.
