How Hungary ensures gas transit bypassing sanctions

Hungary announced that it had reached an agreement with Bulgaria to continue the transit of Russian gas, despite US sanctions against Gazprombank. This was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, Peter Szijártó. According to him, the parties have found a legally and financially acceptable solution for continuing cooperation.

Hungary pays for Russian gas through Gazprombank, while Bulgaria receives transit payments through the same bank. This allows you to avoid a direct violation of sanctions restrictions. Gas is transported to Hungary through the Turkish Stream gas pipeline, passing through the territory of Bulgaria. Hungary noted that this route provides the main volume of gas consumed by the country - more than 7 billion cubic meters this year.

At the same time, Bloomberg reports with reference to the Ministry of Energy of Bulgaria that the parties only discussed possible solutions to the problem. Bulgaria, in turn, is looking for ways to continue receiving transit fees after the arrival of Russian gas, while involving Hungary as part of the mechanism.

This situation emphasizes the complexity of energy policy in Europe under sanctions pressure, as well as the dependence of individual countries on Russian energy resources. Despite criticism from EU partners, Hungary continues to implement agreements with Russia to ensure its own energy security.
