How Ukraine repelled a large-scale Russian missile strike

On November 17, Russia made one of the most massive attacks on the territory of Ukraine, using a wide range of weapons, including winged, ballistic and hypersonic missiles, as well as shock drones. According to the information provided by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, the purpose of the enemy was the objects of energy infrastructure across the country.

About 120 rockets of different types (including Isanders, "daggers" and "zircon") have been used.

Approximately 90 drones were used, including Shahheda Iranian.

Ukrainian air defense has destroyed more than 140 air targets by dealing with anti-aircraft missile troops, aviation (F-16, Su-27, MiG-29) and radio-electronic fight (IEC).

Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko reported that Russian attacks had damaged generation and electricity transmission, which forced the transmission system operator to enter emergency disconnections.

The affected area:

Disconnection of electricity: Vinnytsia, Volyn, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Ivano-Frankivsk regions.

Emergency shutdowns: Kyiv, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Zhytomyr, Khmelnitsky regions.

Infrastructure damage:

DTEK has been struck, in particular, thermal power plants were injured.

In 2024, the DTEK infrastructure was attacked eight times, in total, more than 190 objects have undergone shelling during the war.

President Zelensky stressed that the purpose of attack is to destroy Ukraine's energy infrastructure. At the same time, he noted the efficiency of air defense, which neutralized most of the threats.

"Our rescuers and energy are working quickly to restore damaged objects," said Herman Galushchenko.
