How Putin's "friends" reacted to the invasion of Russia

Russia was in an unusual situation for itself - invasion of its territory by Ukraine, which was the first such case since the Second World War. However, despite the Kremlin's expectations, President Vladimir Putin's "friends" did not hurry to support his actions and condemn Ukraine for conducting a military operation on Russian land.

Two weeks after the breakthrough of the Russian border and the beginning of battles in the Kursk region, only Syria openly advocated the support of the Russian dictator. Damascus stated that they condemned the "aggression", which, according to them, would not have happened without "collective support of the event". Syria support is related to the history of Russian military assistance by Bashar al -Assad regime during a civil war in this country. Russian support allowed Assad to stay in power and avoid possible death.

China, who previously agreed with Putin on the "boundless partnership", responded to the situation in the Kursk region more restrained. Beijing only "drew attention to the situation" and called on the parties to the de -escalation, without expressing any clear support of Russia or condemning Ukraine.

Another important ally of Russia is the organization of the Collective Security Agreement (ODCB), often called the Russian analogue of NATO, has not condemned Ukraine for fighting in the Russian territory. The CCU stated that they were closely monitoring the situation in the Kursk region, and emphasized that they could carry out all the necessary procedures only in the event of an official request of Russia for military assistance.

Other Putin allies, such as North Korea and some other states, have also been in no hurry to condemn Ukraine or comment on the situation in the Kursk region.

Thus, despite the Kremlin's hopes for broad international support, Russia remained almost alone in confrontation with Ukraine in its own territory.
