One of the options that are being considered in Europe is the purchase of American weapons and its subsequent transfer to Ukraine.
The idea is that if the Trump administration does not want to supply weapons directly to Ukraine, Europe will be able to take on this role and buy American weapons on its own. This will continue the support of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, hold back Russia's offensive and strengthen Kiev position in negotiations. “This will help Ukraine to restrain Russia's promotion and may make Putin take the ceasefire more seriously. And if Europeans manage to persuade Trump to continue to transmit intelligence data to Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will be able to maintain defense, ”the sources said. At the same time, Bloomberg journalists note that the United States will probably continue to provide Ukraine with intelligence necessary for sighting blows on the enemy. The short -term cessation of the transfer of intelligence in the spring of 2025 created some operational difficulties for Kiev and caused anxiety among allies who are afraid that in the future they may be in a similar situation.
Thus, European countries are looking for ways to ensure the sustainability of military assistance to Ukraine without waiting for certainty from Washington.
