Egypt plans to expand the Suez Canal

Egypt leads a technical and economic justification for the further expansion of the Suez Canal in order to reduce transit times and to avoid possible blocking of this important maritime path through which 12% of world maritime trade passes.

According to the announcement of the head of the Suez Canal Management, the All -Rabi, the project provides for the transformation of single -pass channels - 50 kilometers in the north and 30 kilometers in the south - in the two -entrance intersections.

These plans are based on proposals that were first presented in 2021 after the Great Ever Given ship blocked the channel for almost a week, creating serious obstacles to international maritime trade. The initial expansion of the channel, which was $ 8 billion and was completed almost ten years ago, aimed at reducing the expectation time and attracting more vessels.
