Two major incidents occurred in the Red Sea when the Yemeni Houthis attacked two large crude oil tankers. One of the tankers, Amjad, under the flag of Saudi Arabia, and the second - Blue Lagoon I, under the flag of Panama, became the targets of attacks, which led to serious tension in the region.
According to Reuters, the American military called these attacks "reckless acts of terrorism." The Houthis claimed responsibility for shelling the Blue Lagoon I tanker using missiles and drones. Although the attack on the Amjad tanker was not mentioned in the statement, the US confirmed that both vessels were hit by ballistic missiles and drones.
The tanker Amjad, which can hold about two million barrels of oil, and the Blue Lagoon I, which has a maximum capacity of one million barrels, were sailing next to each other when they were attacked. Despite the losses, both ships were able to continue their journey without significant damage or loss of life. However, it is noted that the Amjad tanker was probably not the direct target of the attacks.
