The EU is waiting for a decisive US position on Moscow

The European Union expects a more decisive position on Russia against the background of diplomatic efforts to reach peace in Ukraine. This was stated by the EU Supreme Representative Kai Callas in an interview with AFP Agency, published on April 22.

According to Callas, Russia continues to demonstrate the unwillingness to reach peace, delaying negotiations and playing for a while. She noted that Russia declared a 30-hour truce on Easter was rather a political maneuver aimed at maintaining trust in the US, including Donald Trump administration.

"They did not adhere to the truce. It is obvious: Russia is playing games, delaying and really does not want peace," Callas said.

She added that Washington still has in the arsenal a means of increasing pressure on the Kremlin, but did not use them fully. In her opinion, the US refusal to apply these tools raises questions among the allies.

“If they are going to move away from affairs without taking advantage of available tools, then I have a big question: why?" Callas said.

The EU representative also emphasized the importance of coordinated international pressure on Russia and emphasized that Ukraine and its European partners will continue to call the United States to participate more actively in curbing Moscow's aggression.

Her statement came against the backdrop of growing concern in Europe to reduce US support for Ukraine, especially in the context of the new peace plan of Trump administration, which provoked an ambiguous response in Kiev.
