Hungary is becoming the center of attention in international politics because of a possible veto of financial aid to Ukraine within the framework of the European Union. The European Union is reacting to a possible veto by Hungary, indicating plans to create alternative ways to provide aid to Kyiv. At the same time, the European Union decided to appeal to individual member states of the community with a request to create their own aid packages for Ukraine, bypassing any veto of Hungary.
This decision was taken in connection with a possible veto by Viktor Orbán, the head of the Hungarian government, who has expressed some sympathy for Moscow and opposed support for Ukraine in the past. The European Union aims to provide assistance in the amount of 50 billion euros, but these financial payments from the EU budget require the unanimous support of all member states.
Orban stated that any financial aid for Ukraine should be separate from the EU budget, and expressed the need for a new strategy for Ukraine, stressing that all financial decisions should come from it.
Relations between the European Union and Hungary are becoming strained over the issue of Ukraine's possible accession to the EU, to which Orbán has expressed some objections. This situation reflects the competition between Ukraine and Hungary for financial resources and support from the European Union.
