The EU is preparing to return duties on Ukrainian import

The European Union can significantly increase duties on import of Ukrainian products in the next weeks. About it reports Financial Times with reference to diplomatic sources.

The reason for this step is the completion of the special duty -free regime, which was introduced in 2022 after the full -scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine. This decision was part of the support of Kiev by the EU. However, the European Union is preparing to replace this regime with the so -called "transitional measures" within the framework of renewing the free trade agreement.

Particularly acute is the question of agricultural imports. The European Commission's proposals provide for a significant reduction in duty -free quotas on key products such as wheat, poultry sugar and meat. New quotas are expected to be distributed monthly to limit the impact of Ukrainian imports on the EU's domestic market during the negotiation process.

These steps were partially initiated by Poland, which on the eve of their presidential elections actively promoted the idea of protecting the interests of European farmers. Polish farmers and politicians, as well as representatives from France and other countries, have accused Ukrainian imports of reducing EU domestic prices.

The European Commission representative confirmed that the full renewal of the duty -free regime is not planned at this time, as the trade agreement between Ukraine and the EU is being revised.
