The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, Peter Szijjarto, said that Ukraine, by stopping the transit of Russian gas through its territory, put the European Union in a difficult economic situation. The diplomat wrote about this on his Facebook page.
Sijarto noted that due to recent changes, the price of natural gas in Europe has increased by 20%, and this, according to him, has significantly worsened the competitiveness of the European economy.
"The increase in gas prices in Europe is caused by measures that artificially reduce its availability, in particular through sanctions, political decisions and blocking of transport routes," he said.
The head of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs added that Hungary has managed to diversify its gas supply, and the increase in the price of energy carriers will not have a significant impact on the country's economy.
Sijarto also criticized Ukraine, indicating that its decision to stop gas transit contradicts the desire to integrate into the EU, because, in his opinion, this created additional difficulties for Central Europe.
